LAKE TYERS STATE PARK (PART 7 – MORGAN’S LANDING TRACK + IRONBARK TRACK)

This afternoon, I returned to Lake Tyers State Park and explored Morgan’s Landing Track and Ironbark Track. I haven’t been here for a few months as I’ve been busy exploring other areas of East Gippsland but considering how lovely and sunny the weather was today, I couldn’t resist going back.

Morgan’s Landing Track can be accessed via Lake Tyers House Road in Toorloo Arm. Driving along this main drag is generally okay in a 2WD sedan so long as you’re doing it at a reasonable speed. However, given how rough, bumpy and overgrown Morgan’s Landing Track is, I wisely decided not to drive down it.

I have to say this is a really beautiful forest track. I couldn’t help but be in awe of the eucalyptus trees flanking the track (Tasmanian Blue Gum, Swamp Mahogany, Native Cherry, Brush Box). The track is mildly hilly but mostly flat with some curved sections. About 1.4km along the track, you’ll reach a junction point where Ironbark Track splits off to the right. I decided to check this track out first as it’s only 600-700m long. It is slightly hilly at times but reaching the campground makes the effort worth it.

The Ironbark Campground is very large and spacious, consisting of a single firepit and a picnic table. There are multiple access points to Boggy Creek from here, probably around 100-200m walk from the Campground. There was only a couple of people down here so I imagine it’s a reasonably quiet spot for camping, fishing, walking and relaxing.

The Morgan’s Landing Track continues on for a further 1.2km with more incredible eucalyptus forest. It’s certainly a haven for bird life that’s for sure. The track is harder underfoot here with lots of gravel and small rocks plus it gets a bit narrower.

Morgan’s Landing itself is a fairly small area and in dire need of maintenance with lots of overgrown vegetation and fallen trees. However, the views of Boggy Creek are pretty awesome. There’s even a small island directly in front of the shoreline. https://www.strava.com/activities/11177166644
